Shamrock Rovers secured a spectacular 3-1 win at Tallaght Stadium with two goals from Jack Byrne.

Meanwhile, Larne were unable to find a breakthrough against their Georgian opponents at Inver Park.

The Hoops came out on top against Egnatia of Albania after a brilliant display at Tallaght Stadium, taking a 3-1 lead to the second leg in Rrogozhinë.

Stephen Bradley’s side began brightly, with Jack Byrne forcing a save out of Mario Dajsinani after great work from new signing Will Fitzgerald to chase down a seemingly lost cause.

The League of Ireland champions pushed on and created chance after chance in front of their home crowd, but their breakthrough would eventually come from a set-piece.

Dylan Watts was found to have been tackled from behind by Ildi Gruda and the referee pointed to the spot.

Byrne made no mistake from the spot, slotting to the left to become the outright top Irish goalscorer in Europe, overtaking Robbie Keane on 16.

10 minutes later, Egnatia would equalise against the run of play; Guillem Jaime scored a penalty for the Albanian side.

In the second half, Shamrock Rovers continued their onslaught on their opponents, with the Hoops regaining their lead through captain Pico Lopes, when he headed in from Byrne’s corner.

Bradley’s charges would double their lead three minutes later in spectacular fashion, again from a Byrne corner.

The Dublin native scored directly from the set-piece to make it a 3-1 lead.

Fitzgerald almost opened his account for the Hoops, forcing yet another save out of Dajsinani.

Rovers had plenty of chances for a fourth goal but just couldn’t find the finish against the Albanian outfit.

Larne started the game slowly, spurred on by the two changes they brought in for this third-round qualifier, Montel Gibson and Matty Lusty.

Iberia 1999 thought that they had taken an early lead against the Irish League champions when Vahid Selimovic headed home Giorgi Kutsia’s free kick, but the flag went up for offside.

The Invermen pushed on from this close call, coming close just before half-time after Sean Graham found Tomas Cosgrove, who drew out a good save from Giorgi Makaridze in the Georgian side’s goal.

As the half progressed, Gary Haveron’s side grew in confidence, creating plenty of chances but couldn’t put the finishing touches on it.

Larne came out of the blocks quickly in the second half, putting pressure on the Tbilisi outfit, with Ronan Doherty putting two shots in.

The Co Antrim side then felt they should have had a penalty after Matty Lusty fell under the challenge of Alesandre Amisulashvili in the box.

In the last 20 minutes, the Inver Reds threw everything Iberian, but the NIFL Premiership side could not manage a winner.
