AFTER their trashing by the reigning kings of European rugby, Ulster will be hoping to get their first win of the season against their French opponents.

Last time out, Ulster were dazzled by Toulouse 61-21, who unleashed a scoring frenzy on the province, managing nine tries in total.

James McCormick, Stewart Moore and Iain Henderson managed to get over the line for the Irish side however couldn’t get close to last year’s French and European champions.

The game will be played at Kingspan Stadium, which was the venue when these two teams last played each other in 2016, with Bordeaux coming out 26-22 winners.

It has been confirmed that Ben Moxham suffered an ACL tear of his right knee in the recent URC defeat to Leinster.

He will have surgery next week, and his estimated return to play time is 9 months.

John Cooney has resumed training following his injury against his native province and will be assessed ahead of the Ulstermen’s fixture.

Stewart Moore and Ben Carson both suffered soft tissue contusions against Toulouse, and they too will have their fitness for selection monitored through training this week.

Also currently unfit for selection are Robert Baloucoune (calf), Jake Flannery (ankle), Jacob Stockdale (hamstring), Ethan McIlroy (ankle), Sean Reffell (ankle), James Hume (knee), Callum Reid (knee) and Tom Stewart (ankle).

Bordeaux enter this game having dismantled English Premiership side Leicester Tigers 42-28 in their opening European Champions Cup.

The Ulstermen currently sit at the foot of Pool A, with no points and a points difference of -40 after their Toulouse game.
