THE social media giant Meta has apologised after technical problems have caused issues around the world for Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

Posting on their rival platform, X, the company said on Wednesday evening: “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users' ability to access our apps.

“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”

According to the Downdetector website, after 6pm over 22,000 people in the UK had reported issues with the Facebook app, over 15,000 for Whatsapp and around 12,000 for Instagram.
