Two rescued after crash in south Belfast

Emergency services attended the incident on Thursday morning

Two individuals had to be ‘rescued’ from a vehicle following a crash in south Belfast on Thursday morning.

The two-vehicle crash happened on the Malone Road at around 9am with police, fire service and ambulance crews in attendance.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) confirmed that three fire engines were sent to the scene, while specialist equipment was required to rescue the two casualties.

“[Two appliances] from Cadogan Fire Station and [one appliance] from Central Fire Station attended the incident,” a spokesperson said.

“Firefighters rescued two casualties from a vehicle using specialist equipment and were transferred to the care of NIAS.

“The incident was dealt with by 10.02am.”

The two individuals were then reportedly taken to hospital by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS).

A police spokesperson confirmed that the road has since reopened and that enquiries are ongoing.
