A father-of-three killed when he was struck by a vehicle in Co Down will be remembered as an “amazing” and “kindhearted” man by his grieving family.

Alex Connor, who was 35, died following the collision in the Upper Gransha Road area outside Bangor at around 1.50am on Saturday.

Police closed the road for a period as collision investigators worked at the scene, and an appeal has been made for witnesses or motorists with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Online tributes have been paid to Mr Connor, including from his partner Jennifer Kennedy.

She said she had lost “my partner, my forever person, my best friend of 13 years” in the tragedy.

“I love you so much and forever will you are the best thing to walk in to my life and give me 3 beautiful children, I could never thank you enough,” she wrote.

Mr Connor’s uncle, William Connor wrote in a post: “Heartbroken, my wee nephew taken too soon.”

He added Alex would be “sorely missed” by his loved ones.

Shelby Kennedy said Mr Connor was an “amazing, kindhearted, funny brother-in-law”, adding he was “truly missed, forever in my heart”.

DUP North Down MLA Peter Martin said in a post to Facebook it was “devastating to see another death on our roads”.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Alex Connor who was only 35,” he said.

“I would urge anyone who may have dash cam footage or may have been in the area at the time and may have seen something that would be able to help the police with their investigation, please contact the PSNI.”

Bangor UUP councillor Craig Blaney told the Irish News there was a “sense of shock” in the area following the collision.

“It’s just a tragedy in every sense of the word, and my heart goes out to his family, his partner and three young children as they come to terms with their loss,” he said.

“This is every family’s worst nightmare, and our thoughts will remain with them in the days ahead.”

Mr Connor is the second person to lose their life as a result of a collision on the north’s roads so far in 2025, after 13-year-old Tiarnán Trainor was fatally injured in a quad bike crash in the Killeavy area of Co Armagh on January 2.

PSNI Inspector Cherith Adair said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened or who has CCTV, dash-cam or other footage which could assist with enquiries, to contact police.”
