THE family of a champion Belfast hurler who died suddenly last week have remembered him as “an amazing human being”.
Paul McGreevy passed away peacefully at home on December 8, just two months after he helped Belfast Saints win an Antrim Junior B Championship title.
The son of Desi and Grainne and brother to Daniel, Rachel and the late Conor - his funeral took place on Thursday at Christ the Redeemer Church, followed by burial in Blaris Cemetery.
A tribute from his family, who called him “golden boy,” read: “You made us so proud of all that you achieved in your life.
“Your love for the Irish culture, the kindness and devotion to your family and friends.”
They added: ”Your profound support and empathy you showed to other nations and countries suffering from conflict says it all at this sad time.
“This shows what an amazing human being you were.
“If you only knew how much you were loved by all.”
Posting on Facebook, Belfast Saints hurling club said they were “deeply saddened” by the loss of their senior player.
“Paul was a dependable member of our championship winning squad this year, who always gave his all,” the tribute read.
“He was a good guy, who has gone too soon.
“Our thoughts are with Paul’s family and all of his loved ones.”
