The Sydenham Bypass in east Belfast has reopened after police earlier attended to a ‘report of concern for safety’ in the area.

Trains on the Bangor line were also suspended due to the incident, however the line has also since reopened.

Translink has advised users to expect delays to services.

“The Bangor line has now reopened. Please allow for some knock on delay/disruption,” a spokesperson said.

Earlier, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Road users are advised to avoid the Sydenham Bypass due to a build-up of traffic as police attend a report of a concern for safety in the area.”

Trains on the Bangor line were suspended for around 40 minutes, while the closures impacted those making the journey to Belfast City Airport.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the airport said: “The Sydenham Bypass is currently closed in both directions.”

“Passengers travelling to and from Belfast City Airport are advised to leave extra time for their journey and follow any diversions in place.”

Translink also advised that the 600 bus services were unable to reach the airport during the incident.

Police have confirmed that traffic is flowing freely again.
