Shot fired at a house in ‘reckless attack’ in Bessbrook

Police are investigating after a shot was fired at the front door of a house in Co Armagh.

The incident happened at a property in Dobson’s Way in Bessbrook in the early hours of Thursday, December 19.

Police responded, and enquiries identified damage to the front door of a house consistent with a shotgun strike.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have appealed for information.

Detective Sergeant James Johnston said: “This was a reckless attack carried out in a residential area.



“As we continue with enquiries to establish exactly what happened, the motive and who is responsible, we appeal to anyone with information that could assist us, in particular CCTV or doorbell camera footage, we would urge you to get in touch with us.”

Sinn Féin Councillor Declan Murphy said it was an ‘appalling incident’.

He added: “Thankfully no one was injured in this gun attack but it must have been a frightening experience for those in the house and those living nearby. “The local community have been left in fear. They are entitled to live in peace and feel safe in their homes
