A man in his 50s is in a ‘serious but stable’ condition in hospital after allegedly being stabbed in the neck during a ‘serious assault’ in east Belfast.
Police say another man sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the assault, which took place in the Templemore Avenue area in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The men are believed to have been attacked by two other men, but police were unable to locate them after arriving at the scene.
“Police received a report at approximately 2.30am this morning, Thursday 23rd January, that two men had been attacked in the Templemore Avenue area,” a police spokesperson said.
“An altercation occurred, and a man aged in his 50s was allegedly stabbed in his neck – sustaining a serious injury.
”He required hospital treatment, and remains in a serious, but stable condition. A second man reported non-life-threatening injuries.
”Police attended the scene including officers from our ARV (Armed Response Vehicle) and Dog Unit - and extensively searched the area for the two suspects. However, they were not located.”
A police investigation has since been launched, with Templemore Avenue closed between Albertbridge Road and Madrid Street to both vehicles and pedestrians during Thursday morning rush hour traffic.
The road has since reopened.
