Petrol bomb thrown through window of Belfast flat by four masked men

A petrol bomb was thrown through the window of a flat in north Belfast by four masked men.

Police are investigating after it caused a fire in the property on Cliftonpark Avenue on Tuesday night.

Police said it was reported at around 10.10pm that four masked men broke a window of the property before throwing a petrol bomb inside it.

PSNI officers and forensic teams were present at the scene of the arson attack on Wednesday as the investigation into the incident continued.

Significant damage was caused to the ground floor of the property during the incident, with images from the scene showing the smashed window where the petrol bomb was thrown.

Detective Sergeant McAllister: “Officers along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and the fire was extinguished.

“Luckily no one was in the property at the time.

“We are treating this as arson with intent to endanger life and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the attack or to anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist enquiries to contact police quoting reference 1946 of 02/07/24.”
