A man has been jailed at Derry Magistrates Court after he admitted an unprovoked attack on a man on a mobility scooter.
Sean McElhinney (28) of Glenview Drive in Limavady was charged with two assaults and threatening to commit criminal damage on July 29 last year.
The court heard that McElhinney had gone to the address of the first victim and accused him of killing his mother, punching him in the face as he stood in the door of his home waiting for a friend, leaving him with a bloody nose.
He then kicked him while he was on the ground and told him that he was going to “bring the boys back” and burn him out.
McElhinney was also charged with another assault that occurred that same day, when he was seen on CCTV to be stopping a mobility scooter and punching the man using it.
McElhinney denied the assaults when interviewed by police.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that McElhinney had an extensive record and had been involved in criminal activity from an early age.
District Judge Barney McElhom called the incident “absolutely disgraceful”, sentencing him to 12 months in custody and putting in place a restraining order against both the injured parties for three years.
