Man charged with attempting to prevent lawful burial after discovery of pensioner’s body

A man’s body was discovered at a house in Derry earlier this week

A man has been charged with attempting to prevent a lawful burial after the discovery of the body of a pensioner in Derry last week.

The body of the man in his 80s was discovered at a house on Culmore Road on Wednesday, July 17.

A 55-year-old man was charged to appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Monday, July 22.

Ballyarnett Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy said the whole community was in “shock”.

The former mayor said: “The local community is shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of a man on the Culmore Road.

“My immediate thoughts are with this man’s family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.”
