Man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault during darts event at SSE Arena in Belfast

A man remained in police custody on Friday after being arrested following a report of an alleged sexual assault during a major darts event in Belfast.

The 32-year-old was arrested after a woman reported being touched inappropriately by an unknown man during Thursday evening’s Premier League Darts at the SSE Arena.

“Police have arrested a man following a report of a sexual assault during a sporting event in east Belfast on Thursday evening, February 6,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

“It was reported at approximately 10.50pm that a woman had been touched inappropriately by an unknown man.

“The 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and he remains in police custody at this time.”

Separately, police said a second man was cautioned for a number of offences that happened during the event.

A “20-year-old man in attendance at the event, was cautioned for a number of offences, including disorderly behaviour, assault on police and obstructing police”, the PSNI said.
