Jody Gormley’s body was travelling to his native Co Tyrone following a funeral mass in Belfast on Thursday morning.

The 53-year-old former football star and manager died on Monday just weeks after he publicly revealed to the Irish News he was battling cancer.

His body was brought from his Haypark Gardens home he shared with wife, Deirdre, along Ailsebury Road and the Carolan Road, arriving at the Good Shepherd Church on the Ormeau Road for 10am requiem mass.

Following the service, his body was brought from Belfast to St Macartan’s graveyard in Trillick for burial. Mr Gormley grew up in Trillick, where he managed the team to a Tyrone Club Championship win just last year.

Mr Gormley was part of the Tyrone squad that lost to Dublin in 1995 All-Ireland Football Final.
