A number of houses have been evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious object in the Maghera area.
The object was reported in the Ranaghan Road area outside of the Co Derry town on Tuesday.
A security alert is underway and a PSNI spokesperson said road closures are in place at the junctions with Ballyknock Road and Tirkane Road.
“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area at this time. Further updates will be issued in due course,” the spokesperson added.
