A Co Down GAA club has made a report to the PSNI over “untrue and defamatory” messages circulating in relation to club members.
The messages have circulated on social media apps and involve allegations relating to management and players of a youth team within the club.
A statement from the club said it is treating the circulation of the message as a “matter of grave concern”.
“Mayobridge GAC is aware that a message has been circulating which is untrue and defamatory in respect of members of Mayobridge GAC, young players and other individuals,” the statement said.
“Mayobridge GAC can categorically state that there is no truth to the claims made in the message.
“Mayobridge GAC regard the circulation of this message as a matter of grave concern and have referred the matter to the PSNI.
“The PSNI have been provided with information that may assist with their enquiries. Mayobridge GAC will make no further comment pending the outcome of the investigation.”
The PSNI has been contacted for comment.
