A man in his 50s has been arrested after a stop and search operation in Holywood uncovered a variety of drugs and a ‘large amount of cash’.

The discovery was made on Friday evening at around 6.30pm after a vehicle was stopped on the Old Holywood Road.

A spokesperson said officers removed the cash and ‘a variety of Class A, B and C drugs’ which were ‘destined for our streets’.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs, possession with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.

Police say he was later released to allow for further enquiries.

“Targeting drugs supply is a priority for the police service,” a spokesperson said.

“We are committed to tackling the scourge of illicit drugs and will continue to investigate those who profit from the misery and harm they cause our community.

”We work tirelessly to tackle every aspect of drug supply and misuse in our area. It’s a vicious cycle that we need to collectively break, and we all have a part to play,” they added.

Anyone with information or concerns about the illegal use or supply of drugs is asked to contact police on 101.
