A Donegal man has been killed in a work place accident in Australia.

He has been named locally as Barry Breslin (35), a father-of-one originally from Straleel, Kilcar.

Mr Breslin, who had been living in Australia for a number of years, is believed to have been struck by the arm of an excavator while working in the Greenwood area of Perth on Thursday.

It has been reported that Mr Breslin suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Royal Perth Hospital, but died a short time later.

A family notice has described him as a “beloved father to his son Tommy” adding that he would be “sadly missed by his loving fiancée Melissa, his parents Mary and Seamus, his brothers Owen (Beth & Hazel) and Shane (Gerard)”.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Breslin from Kilcar GAA club, where he played at underage level.

In a statement, the club said his tragic death had comes as a “great shock to us all”.



“Barry played underage for the club for many years and is fondly remembered by the players and all who were involved at the time and to his mother Mary, a tireless volunteer and supporter of our club over the years.

“Our hearts go out to you and your family and we pass on our prayers to you all at this sad time, ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Other tributes posted online have described Mr Breslin as a “fine young man” and “such a lovely fella”.
