A man has been stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver following an aggravated burglary in Derry.
Detective Sergeant Lizzie Ballentine said police were informed that the assault took place at a flat in the Canterbury Park area around 4am on Saturday, when two men stabbed the male occupant in the eye.
The attackers then made off from the scene when the alarm was raised, with the victim suffering injuries to his eye.
“A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is currently in custody,” Det Sgt Ballentine said.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and detectives would appeal to anyone with any information or CCTV footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1247 of December 21.”
