An entire community was hoping and praying a Co Tyrone man would make a recovery after he was critically injured in a road traffic collision just before Christmas, an MLA who knows the family said.
Father-of-three Sean McGaughey died on Monday from injuries suffered when the van he was driving collided with a car near his home some miles outside Omagh.
West Tyrone MLA Declan McAteer said the community is deeply saddened at the passing of the 56-year-old.
“We had been hoping and praying since Christmas that he would make a full recovery but sadly he did not pull through,” Mr McAleer said.
“I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the McGaughey family at this sad time”.
Funeral arrangements were announced on Wednesday following the death of Mr McGaughey.
As tributes were delivered to a “great neighbour and friend”, it was announced the father-of-three’s remains will leave his late home on Friday morning for Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Church in Killyclogher.
The 56-year-old died on Monday after he critically injured just before Christmas when his van collided with a car on the Drumnakilly Road near the junction with the Crocknacor Road, some miles outside Omagh.
A death notice described Mr McGaughey as the loving father of Conor, Adrian and Kylie. He was the caring brother of eight sisters but was predeceased by parents James and Josephine and brother James. He was a grandfather of four.
The funeral procession will leave his late residence on the Crocknacor Road at 9.15am on Friday for 10am mass. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
