Police hunt for suspect after car hijacked outside Craigavon Area Hospital

Victim was unharmed but left ‘shaken’ after the early morning incident

Police say the driver was approached by a man outside Craigavon Area Hospital on the Lurgan Road at around 6am on Saturday morning.

A car was hijacked outside Craigavon Area Hospital on Saturday morning after a man got into the passenger seat of the vehicle and threatened the driver.

The victim drove to a nearby industrial estate in Portadown, where he got out of the car, a silver Volkswagen Polo, and the suspect then drove off towards the M12 and on to the M2.

Police say the victim was unharmed but left ‘shaken’ after the incident, which happened at around 6am on the Lurgan Road outside the hospital.

A police spokesperson said: “We received a report that the driver of a silver Volkswagen Polo had been approached by a man outside a hospital in the Lurgan Road area shortly before 6am.

”The man got into the front passenger seat of the car and threatened the victim, who drove a short distance to an industrial estate in the Carn Road area, where he exited the vehicle.

”The suspect took the keys and drove off, believed to be heading in the direction of the M12 and on to the M1.

”Thankfully, the victim was physically unharmed, although he was left shaken by the ordeal.

”Police say the suspect was in his 50s or 60s, of slim build and around 5′10″ in height.

He had a thick grey beard and was wearing a dark-coloured, hooded top at the time of the hijacking.

Officers are asking that anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or has dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 260 of 25/1/25.

They are also appealing to anyone who see a silver Volkswagen Polo, with the registration IGZ 3641, to contact them immediately.
