There has been a call for people to come forward for vaccinations after a rise in hospitalisations due to Covid and the flu.
Medical chiefs in the north have said they are seeing increasing admissions to hospital in the lead-up to Christmas.
Figures show hospitalisations as a result of flu rose to 5.53 per 100,000 this week, compared with 3.98 per 100,000 in the previous week.
The Executive Director of Nursing in the South Eastern Trust, Dr David Robinson is urging everyone who is eligible to come forward and get their flu and covid vaccinations.
Speaking as he received both his vaccinations in the Ulster Hospital, Dr David Robinson said, “I get my vaccinations every year and it is really important this year, as it has been every year. So please come and get your vaccination whether it is fu, covid or both.”
Dr Robinson added: “We are seeing more patients admitted to hospital with more symptoms. The science tells us you need to get vaccinated every year. It’s not just for you, it is for your family and loved ones who you will be with over Christmas.
“It is also for our patients and all those we care for.”
