Alleged drink driver crashes into traffic lights on busy Belfast road

Police say the driver was two times over the legal drink driving limit

An alleged drink driver drove into a set of traffic lights in a single-vehicle crash on the A55 in Belfast on Saturday morning.

The crash happened near Newtownbreda and left the set of traffic lights flat while police arrested the driver of the vehicle.

Police say the driver was two times over the legal drink driving limit.

“This was the scene police were met with after responding to a report of a single-vehicle road traffic collision this morning,” the PSNI said.

“Police carried out a preliminary breath test at the roadside and the driver was subsequently arrested for driving With excess alcohol.

“The driver was conveyed to custody where they undertook the evidential procedure, this has provided a reading were the driver was twice over the Legal Limit.



“When the driver sobers up they will be charged To court.

“Thankfully on this occasion, no one was hurt. Thanks to the members of the public who reported the incident and stayed at the location for the arrival of police.”
