South Derry construction group FP McCann has completed the acquisition of rival concrete firm Macrete Ireland.
Based at Ballymaguigan, close to Toome, the precast concrete manufacturing operation had been owned by the Hogg family since the company was founded in 1979.
According to new filings published by Companies House on Wednesday, the FP McCann Group took control of Macrete Ireland’s parent owner Reginald Hogg Holdings on December 20.
FP McCann’s website now lists the former Macrete Ireland manufacturing site at Creagh Road among its 11 Northern Ireland locations.
The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
The latest accounts for Macrete’s parent company show it generated £25 million in turnover in the year to March 31 2024, producing a profit-before-tax of £4.4m.
The Reginald Hogg group, which includes a number of small subsidiary companies, employed 118 staff in 2023/24, according to the annual report.
Companies House filings suggest members of Hogg family exited the business as directors in late October, including Richard Hogg, who was recently named as the new chairman of trade body Manufacturing NI.
Mr Hogg succeeded Con O’Neill, who held the post for 12 years.
Under the Hogg-era, Macrete grew into a significant precast concrete engineering operation.
Alongside rail, water, marine and civil engineering projects, Macrete Ireland had been prominent in stadia engineering.
In recent years, it was involved in projects for premier league clubs Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford FC, Brighton, Wolves and Fulham.
It also supplied precast terracing, stairs, lift shafts and walls for the Oval cricket ground.
The acquisition of Macrete Ireland by FP McCann comes just months after the south Derry concrete group announced plans to invest £90m to drive forward its manufacturing capabilities.
The Knockloughrim-based company, which recorded a pre-tax profit of £42m in 2023, on sales of £416m, said its plans include several factory extensions and the introduction of several new product lines.
FP McCann said it is now the largest manufacturer of precast concrete in the UK.
The latest accounts for the group show it employed a workforce of 1,651 in 2023.
Alongside its 11 sites in the north, FP McCann operates from nine locations in Britain.
C closer to home, its recent moves saw it expand the group’s ready mix operations, adding a new supply site in Co Tyrone.
The base at Drumnakilly, between Omagh and Carrickmore, is FP McCann’s seventh ready mix concrete supply site in the north.
