Derry make it two losses from two games as Kerry go back to Munster having carried out a late escape thanks to two goals right at the death.
The two sides were neck-and-neck for most of the game, with the two sides trading one and two-point leads throughout the afternoon.
Derry had a late resurgence which culminated in a goal for Shane McGuigan which looked to have sealed it for the Ulster side.
But that wasn’t all she wrote as Kerry had a chance at salvation through Donal O’Sullivan who palmed in for the Kingdom in the dying seconds, but they were still behind.
The football gods then decided it was Jack O’Connor’s day as from the kick-out on O’Sullivan’s goal, the scorer turned provider as O’Sullivan fed Paul Geaney, another sub, who rounded Niall McNicholl in goal and put the ball into an empty net and sealed the win.
Kerry now can’t rest on their laurels as they get ready for the visit of Donegal next week in Killarney after that fixture was postponed last weekend due to Storm Eowyn.
